Earthly Advent of the Christ Predicted

Today's reading was discussing the prophecies of prophets about the coming of the Savior.  Through the Jesus The Christ Chapter (Chapter 5) and the Study guide readings (Jesus Christ, Prophecies about) it talks about the fact that all prophets have testified of the coming of the Savior.  Acts 3:24 "Yea, and all the prophets from Samuel and those that follow after, as many as have spoken, have likewise foretold of these days." Luke 24:27 "And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself." To list a few of the prophets that have prophesied of things concerning the Savior's coming:

Adam
Enoch
Moses
Job
Abraham
Isaac
Jacob
Isaiah
Angel Gabriel speaking to Mary the Mother of Jesus
Jeremiah
John the Baptist
Lehi
Nephi
Jacob
Abinadi
Bejamin
Alma
Amulek
Samuel

"Thus the scriptures of both hemispheres and in all ages of ante--meridian time bore solemn testimony to the certainty of Messiah's advent, thus the holy prophets of old voiced the word of revelation predicting the coming of the world's King and Lord, through whom alone is salvation provided, and redemption from death made sure." (Jesus the Christ, pages 49-50)

And that is the significance to me.  All prophets throughout time have testified of the Savior Jesus Christ.  Before his life and atonement, the prophesied of a man who would come, of a Man who would carry our sorrows and our griefs. As Isaiah testified: "Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed." (Isaiah 53:4-5)

As I continued reading the study guide scriptures it carried me into the prophecies for the second coming of Jesus Christ.  It occurred to me, that we have the opportunity to prepare and look forward like those who came before Christ.  It is a different preparation, because we are able to look forward, but also back at the events that DID happen.  Those who lived before Christ had only his coming and the prophecies of his coming to look forward too.

I was touched by Zechariah Chapter 13, specifically verse 6.  This chapter is discussing the second coming of Christ. "And one shall say unto him, What are these wounds in thine hands? Then he shall answer, Those with which I was wounded in the house of my friends." The chapter discusses the forgiveness that comes to the Jews at the second coming.  it then goes on to discuss His people being tried and refined, to go on and say The LORD is my God."

And I join with those. The LORD is MY God. And I am so grateful for the prophets who have testified of his coming before before and after his life.  And I am grateful that I can have a Prophet alive today who continues to testify of His Life.
